Galaxy call recording settings and save location
Turning on auto call recording, finding the folder where recordings are saved, and transcribing call recordings
Turning on auto call recording
Turn it on in the settings of Samsung's Phone app
Phone → More options (⋮) → Settings → Record calls → Auto record calls
- Choose what to record: 'All calls', 'Unsaved numbers' or 'Specific numbers'
- Availability depends on your region, phone model and One UI version, and the feature may be turned off where local rules require it
- Menu names can differ slightly between One UI versions
Where call recordings are saved
In the Phone app, open Record calls → Recorded calls to see your recordings
In My Files, recordings are usually in Internal storage → Recordings → Call. Folder names can vary by region and carrier, so check Recorded calls first if the folder isn't there
Transcribing call recordings
Built-in Galaxy feature
On select Galaxy phones running Android 15 with One UI 7 or later, Samsung's Transcript assist can transcribe and summarize calls recorded with the Phone app. It needs a Samsung account and an internet connection. Check your phone for support and the exact menu
Hearlog
Hearlog is a free Android app that transcribes and summarizes call and meeting recordings. Choose the call recordings folder (Recordings/Call) in the app and new calls are transcribed, summarized and saved automatically; calls from before you chose the folder can be selected in the History tab
The original files are only read, never changed or deleted. Each transcript line has a timestamp and speaker, labeled with your name and the other person's name from the file name
Summaries and transcripts are saved as Markdown files to a device folder, Google Drive and other storage, processed with your own Gemini API key or an on-device local model (beta)
Android phones other than Galaxy
Some phone apps keep recordings in the app's private storage, so the folder can't be chosen. In that case, share the recording from the phone app to Hearlog
