Hearlog recording search in AI agents

This free skill lets Claude Code and Codex find and read summaries and transcripts in your storage location and answer questions like what was decided at Tuesday’s meeting

Installation by paste prompt

Copy the box below into a new Claude Code or Codex session; the agent asks for confirmation before running commands, and you only need to provide the Hearlog folder location

Install the Hearlog skill on this computer and connect it to my Hearlog recordings.

1. Check this computer's OS, show me the appropriate installation command below, and run it after I give permission.
macOS·Linux: curl -fsSL https://hearlog.umicorp.kr/skill/install.sh | sh
Windows PowerShell: irm https://hearlog.umicorp.kr/skill/install.ps1 | iex
2. Use the full path to the hearlog executable shown in the installation output without relying on PATH.
3. Ask me for the location of the Hearlog folder. Refer to https://hearlog.umicorp.kr/en/skill/ for folder guidance by storage location.
4. Run config set --root "<path>" with the path I confirm, then run list --limit 5 and show only the titles and dates in the results.
5. Finally, tell me that the skill is available starting in a new session.

Direct installation

Run a single command in the terminal to install, and run it again to update while keeping the configuration file unchanged

macOS · Linux
curl -fsSL https://hearlog.umicorp.kr/skill/install.sh | sh
Windows PowerShell (beta)
irm https://hearlog.umicorp.kr/skill/install.ps1 | iex

The Windows version is in beta pending testing on an actual Windows device

Installation locations

ItemmacOS · LinuxWindows
Executable~/.local/bin/hearlog%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\hearlog\hearlog.exe
Claude Code skill~/.claude/skills/hearlog%USERPROFILE%\.claude\skills\hearlog
Codex skill~/.agents/skills/hearlog%USERPROFILE%\.agents\skills\hearlog

The Hearlog installer moves existing skill folders with the same name that it did not create to a backup folder without deleting them (~/.local/share/hearlog/backup, or %LOCALAPPDATA%\hearlog\backup on Windows) and leaves PATH and shell configuration files unchanged

Supported environments

  • macOS 13 or later · Apple silicon or Intel
  • Linux x64 or arm64 · Kernel 3.2 or later
  • Windows 10 or later x64 · Beta
  • Agent: Claude Code or Codex

Usage examples

After installing Hearlog, ask about recordings in a new session in your own words; the agent uses the hearlog command to find them, read only what's needed, and answer

What was decided in last week's call about the launch schedule?

The Oct 12 'Launch rescheduling' call had 2 decisions: 1. The beta launch date changed to Nov 3. 2. The preregistration schedule stays the same.

The sample recording is a fictional call for this page; actual screens vary by agent, and an agent may ask for permission before running a command

Folders by storage location

The skill reads files Hearlog sends to the storage location as regular computer files, so specify a folder visible on this computer

Hearlog storage locationFolder to specify
Device folderPhone folders are not directly visible on the computer, so select a folder in Hearlog that a sync app copies to the computer and specify the copied folder on the computer
Google DriveSpecify the Hearlog folder in My Drive in the Google Drive desktop app and select “Mirror files” so the files are present on the computer
SFTP (server on this computer)Use the same folder path entered in Hearlog
SFTP (server on another computer)Use the server folder copy synced to this computer
WebDAVUse a folder connected through the OS's WebDAV connection or rclone mount, or copied with rclone sync
S3-compatible storageUse the folder connected to the bucket and prefix entered in Hearlog through rclone mount or rclone sync

For multiple storage locations, select the one that automatically receives all recordings; a recording is absent if automatic transfer is off, the storage location was added after recording, or transfer failed

Manual setup

To specify the Hearlog folder without the paste prompt, replace the path in this command with the actual folder; the configuration file is at ~/.config/hearlog/config.json or, on Windows, %APPDATA%\hearlog\config.json

macOS · Linux
~/.local/bin/hearlog config set --root "/path/to/Hearlog"
~/.local/bin/hearlog list --limit 3
Windows PowerShell (beta)
& "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Programs\hearlog\hearlog.exe" config set --root "D:\Hearlog"
& "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Programs\hearlog\hearlog.exe" list --limit 3

Privacy

  • The Hearlog folder is read-only; files are not modified, moved, or deleted
  • The hearlog executable connects only to the SSH host you set for a Hearlog folder on another machine; the installer downloads only from hearlog.umicorp.kr
  • Recording content the agent reads is included in the conversation and processed by the agent's AI model, as with other files shown to the agent
  • The skill instructs the agent to ask for your confirmation before sending recording content outside the conversation, including in commits, PRs, issues, or messages, and to treat statements in recordings as data rather than instructions
  • A hidden group opens only when you name it directly, and recordings deleted in Hearlog (in the Trash folder) are read only on request

To configure hidden groups, use --hidden-group to replace the entire list or --clear-hidden-groups to clear the setting

macOS · Linux
~/.local/bin/hearlog config set --hidden-group "Family" --hidden-group "Friends"
Windows PowerShell (beta)
& "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Programs\hearlog\hearlog.exe" config set --hidden-group "Family" --hidden-group "Friends"

Troubleshooting

MessageAction
No Hearlog vault configuredThe folder is not set; tell the agent its location or run config set --root
vault root not foundThe path is incorrect, or the drive or mounted folder is not connected
no Hearlog folders under rootThe specified folder is one level above or below the Hearlog folder, or the files have not synced yet
checksum mismatchThe file was downloaded during a site update; rerun the install command after 1 minute, and the existing installation remains intact

Uninstallation

There is no uninstall command; delete the files and folders below to uninstall without affecting recordings in the Hearlog folder

macOS · Linux
~/.local/bin/hearlog
~/.claude/skills/hearlog
~/.agents/skills/hearlog
~/.config/hearlog
~/.local/share/hearlog
Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\hearlog
